Clinton Ford Billups Jr. is a nationally recognized entertainment industry expert consultant and witness with more than 50 years of experience in entertainment, media, and the performing arts. He provides expert analysis, opinions, reports, affidavits, deposition testimony, and courtroom testimony regarding entertainment industry trade customs, usage, and practices involving artists, personal managers, talent agents, producers, and other industry professionals.
Drawing upon decades of firsthand experience as an entertainment executive, personal manager, producer, talent representative, and industry consultant, Mr. Billups assists attorneys, arbitrators, and legal professionals in understanding the business practices, professional standards, contractual relationships, and customary practices that govern the entertainment industry.
His areas of expertise include artist management and development; personal management agreements; manager compensation, commissions, and post-termination compensation; duties and responsibilities of artists, managers, agents, and entertainment professionals; talent representation practices; television production and distribution; live entertainment production; author and publisher agreements; and entertainment industry customs and usage.
Mr. Billups has been involved as an entertainment expert consultant and witness in arbitration proceedings and litigation matters involving disputes concerning personal managers, artists, entertainment agreements, and industry practices. His experience includes matters before courts, arbitration forums, and administrative proceedings involving entertainment industry standards and business relationships.
In 1988, Mr. Billups was elected to membership in the National Conference of Personal Managers (NCOPM), the nation’s oldest trade association dedicated to the advancement of personal managers and their clients. He has served in national leadership roles, including National President for more than two decades, and currently Chairman of the NCOPM National Board of Officers.
As a longtime entertainment professional, Mr. Billups has managed the careers of entertainers, authors, media personalities, and professional speakers, including The Amazing Kreskin, The World Famous Ink Spots, Alain Nu, television personalities, and other nationally recognized performers.
Beyond management, Mr. Billups has produced award-winning television programming, Las Vegas entertainment events, casino shows, concerts, conferences, and special events at many of the entertainment industry’s leading venues. His career also includes experience in entertainment marketing, public relations, talent representation, and media production.
Mr. Billups combines practical entertainment business experience with an understanding of the legal significance of industry customs and practices. His role as an expert witness is to provide courts, attorneys, and arbitrators with informed, objective insight into how the entertainment industry operates and how established professional practices apply to disputed matters.
